Thanks a lot merc, that is exactly what i want is a ground pounding rumbler! I will just have to be easy with her. I told my builder that i wanted the best that i could get out of that motor and i just wanted confirmation from some other ford experts that i was getting at least what i am paying for, ashave already said i am new to all of this. i appreciate your advice and look forward to abusing it!
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what headers and what carberator to use? Im definately going with a 4 barrel but have no idea which one to get. Also will i have some issues with clearance for exhaust?
also trying to decide what rear end to go with? i heard the 9 inch doesnt fit that well and that an 8.8 out of a explorer works well? anyone know what years of explorer would work?

I don't know why some one would tell you a 9" won't work well because it definitley will. Probably better than the explorer rear. Only thing with the 9" is to get the spring to axle mounts while your at it and you have to move the shock mounts.
I'm using an explorer rear diff 3.73 gears disc brakes out of a 95. patrs are plenty not totally rusted away like some of the older parts vehicles up here. You could get an IRS out of an Explorer from what I've read on here. to me it boiled downto parts availability and cost. They were offered in drum and disc and various gear ratios. Check it out on the search option. good luck.
I'm on a steep learning curve here. I've read alot from others experiences and tried to gain knowledge by reading and getting my hands in there. I removed the original srpings and shackles and replaced them with the Explorer set of springs, and Ranger shackles. then I put the axel under the springs to get the ride hieght I was looking for. Looking back I should have just left it where it was moved my perches and leave it at that. Then I wouldn't have learned a thing. Now I need shock mounts off something and leaf spring brackets to tie my U bolts into or modify the Explorer ones to answer both issues ? BTW not sure if your last post was directed to me so I answered anyway. Good luck.
thats what i heard, is it very difficult moving the shock mounts? and can you order the spring to axel mounts? would it be easier to install the 8.8?
The axle to spring mount is a plate that the U bolts bolt the axle tube to, it is a stock item. If you go with the 9" try to get this plate along with it. You will need new U bolts. The shock mounts are easy to move. Cut them off and move them to the right location. I made mine and welded them in the right place.
The first pic is the plate you will need for the 9" and the second pic is the shock mounts I made.
To answer that question....alot. Actually its not the PSI that he gains power from, it is CFM. PSI is only half the equation when dealing with boosted vehicles, but it is often forgot about. He is running a 5" down pipe to an air/water intercooler...it pushes a lot of air. If it pleases the masses, I can get some pics. He did a nice job...even for a GM.
It is no secret to those that know me that I prefer to use stock Ford castings in my builds...stock, mild or otherwise. I most often get ragged on for using ported and warmed over stock Ford heads. I also don't use 351's...so I digress to those that obviously know more than I do about them as I was unaware of a connecting rod issue.
I want pics! My last toy was an '87 Buick Grand National...not stock...
It wasn't a stage II but it was wicked-stupid fast! Those 3.8 turbo/intercooled motors are freakin amazing! WEEDEATER ON CRACK!
early in my dreams of this truck, I was toying with the idea of using a 3.8 setup in my truck. but I am tired of expensive. just want a calm used salvage yard motor...for now
With the engine you are building and the way you say you want to drive it, I would definitely put in a 4 link and the 9" rear end. I would stay away from leaf springs altogether. Go with coil overs or air ride.
I was actually looking at a few of those kits on ebay, i will definately consider that. I am planning on putting the 9 inch in as well just need to find a good one, any year or model you suggest for a good match? thanks for the advice, also looking into the Mustang II front end.
its a ford 9 racing rear end,...dont know what it came off of... my buddy gave me some left over items he had before he left over sea.
axles are ford 9 big bearing 31 spline
rear end is 36.5" long with chevy wheel bolt pattern a fuel cooling hose adapters to prevent over heating.
no calipers....but an early ford bronco calipers should bolt up to the mounts it has.
3rd member is supposedly rebuilt but its for a 28 spline locker...which needs to be swaped for a 31 spline
i also got a the matching rotors with it, its not shown in the pics tho.
He said he was going to use this in his 1950 Mercury which has the same rear end as the 48-56 f1/f100 trucks. i wanted to get some experts opinions if you guys think that this will work for my truck? asking price is $375obo.
on another note these afghan sheep hearders make me real nervous, more so at night when i cant see them! Lot of action going on around here lately : / and im worried about a rear end, lol!
