The EFI exhaust manifolds are similar to a set of shorty headers. They don't flow quite as well as shorty headers and don't really compare to full length headers. But they are miles ahead of the stock carb exhaust manifold!

I thinks that's way too much money for that kit. But I'm also cheap. It would be a whole lot better if it included a cam and all the related valvetrain parts.

And I feel that the 390 cfm 4V is too small for a 300. How many 302 guys do you see running a 390 CFM 4V carb?

For me I'd go with the Offenhauser C-series intake, an Edelbrock 500cfm carb ( or an old Autolite 4100 4V carb ) and either some headers or a pair of EFI exhaust manifolds.

I am sure those headers account for a good portion of the price though. That's why I was wondering what the kit would run without them.

Actually the carb is the most expensive.

Carb $370.00.
Intake $260.00.
Headers $190.00.

I'd rather keep the I6 and build it up.

Let's get real, guys. This kid isn't going to do a thing to his truck unless his dad does it for him. Nothing wrong with that, this kid just needs taught.

Teach the boy but don't keep prodding him onto something we all know he can't even do. Or shouldn't do.

Son, I really hope you just chill out and get a job. Save your money. Do tons and tons and tons of research. Ask questions. LEARN!

Then decide what you want to do. Form a plan.

AND DO IT.
That was the link I was looking for earlier.

If you want to see what can be done to a 300 by someone that knows what they are doing with them check out the French Town Flyer. A naturally aspirated 300 that makes over 500 hp.

is it really too much to ask for him to come to he states and help me build a 500 horse 300 for my truck?

Really? No. I do not think it is too much to ask just to help out fellow man in his aspirations of building a 300 for a pickup truck.

i think i had 3.55's in my old truck, i coupled that with a k&n drop in filter and a glasspack and that think would get up and go, but at about 35 miles an hour it would fall on its face

but it definitely did some burnouts and doughnuts even with the meaty lightning rims on it

and the glasspack and a side exit exhaust only cost 60 bucks at a local muffler shop

I believe he lives in MI. IIRC he use to work for Ford as an engineer.

If you want to pick his brain he hangs out at Fordsix.com

All of this talk about the 300's is getting some bad thoughts churning in my little brain. I'm starting to think I might run a 300 in my 54, like I originally planned to.

Hey man!

Have you thought about maybe running a beefed up Cummins?

No cummins for me!! When people think of cummins they think of dodge( yes I know they did come in some bigger Fords ). If I went diesel it would be 6.9/7.3L IDI.

I was considering a diesel but it's too much hassle at this point to run it. I'm not cutting out the floor and firewall recess again. The other thing is the cost. Diesels aren't cheap and I'm broke.

Going to the 300 isn't going to cost me much if anything. I'm going to pick up a complete truck with a good running 300. I'm expecting it to cost around $300-$500. I'm going to part out strip down the truck and scrap what I can't sell. I should come out with a profit on the deal. Plus I've had a build plan for a 300 for many years. And if I actually have a 300 in the truck I'll be more likely to eventually do the build I want.

I understand. I don't care what people would think though, I'd love to have a Cummins in mine.

But Ted I think you would like a built 300 for your project. It would be different and cool. You can never go wrong with a V-8 but a built I-6 would be pretty cool too!

The problem is I'm one of those guys! No dodge under my hood even if it's not really a dodge.

Just to get the truck driving the 300 would be pretty mild. To start with I'm thinking Headers or dual EFI exhaust manifolds ( ported ), Offy C-series intake with an Autolite 4100 4V carb. And If I can swing it maybe a cam swap.

My eventual plans include an Eaton supercharger or two, intercooler, blow thru carb/s, small bump in compression ( forged pistons ), Slightly reworked stock rods with ARP rod bolts, ARP head & main studs, a higher lift cam( roller if I win the lottery ), Roller rockers, plenty of head work and run it on E85.
