alright so tomorrow im going to rev the engine a little bit and see if the plunger inside of the egr valve is moving? if it is then could it be the evp on top of it?
also when i unplugged it today it had some yellow gel looking stuff on the prongs? is that normal or somethign that needs to be cleaned? and what would i clean it with? electrical cleaner?
Use the VECI label under the hood or if it is missing go to Motorcraftservice.com, then select Quick Guides, scroll to the bottom then select VECI Labels. Use the drop down menus to select your Year/Vehicle/Engine.
There will be all the Calibrations available for your year/model and engine. I find selecting one or two different ones then comparing the vacuum diagrams will get you what you need.
The yellow gel you describe is most likely aged dielectric grease. Clean it off with electrical cleaner, re-apply a new coating, then re-install. You really need to use a DVM to measure the output voltage of the EVP with no vacuum applied and with full vacuum.
well after driving the truck some it is running better and it looks like i might be getting a tad bit better gas mileage. my light is still coming on and i have a few more lines to replace and then we'll see. i think i have about 3 more lines to replace. i may just go ahead and change the pposition sensor on it anyway. the egr valve is new and i havent replaced the sensor yet.
well i found my label. it was on the hood. ill take a look at it later. i just got done finishing up the vacuum lines a few mins ago and now im about to go see if the egr valve is working or not.
alright wheres the EVR located at? i looked on autozone but they didnt have anything called egr vacuum regulator? they had a vacuum solenoid? is this the same thing?
**EDIT**
im kind of stumped on this one guys. everything i read about the egr system having problems says stuff about it surging at high way speeds and rough idleing. my truck doesnt do any of that. if it wasnt for the check engine light and crappy gas mileage i wouldnt even know something was wrong with it.
Yeah i found the same pic when i was looking on some other forums. But everything ive been reading says that usually u have an idle problem or something and like i said my truck seems to run fine except for crappy gas mileage (10-12) and the check engine light coming on all the time
The EVR is modulated by the PCM to open and close the EGR valve. You could test the EVR operation by momentarily applying a ground to the return side of the EVR. If the valve opens, you should see the EGR valve open up as well. This would be a good time to measure the EVP signal with a DVM as well.
Got home today and used a coathanger to short out the evr. Nothing happened so i just picked up a new one. Im going home to throw it on and trst it out. Hopefully the check engine light goes away.
I changed the evr. Took it for a test drive and no check engine light! Only drove 13 miles but thats uaully enough so only time will tell. I really appreciate all the help just like always guys
