I am having trouble getting the fourth torque screw off. The radiator hose is in the way. How much trouble am I buying if I remove that hose so I can get at the fuel regulator better? Am I better off just forcing it out of the way? It takes a lot of force and I already had to fish the torque bit tip out from under the fan with a magnet. Thanks.
when i did mine i ground down the torx bit so it just fit in the screw. that with a small ratchet it worked fine. i know alot ofguys are just rmoving the hose and replacing the thermostat while they are at it. i found there was noo need to do .
I did that upgrade bymyself and the radiator hose was a PITA. I strapped it with a rope and dropped the other end ot the rope straight down to the ground. I then went around the stabilizer and pulled the rope forward. That allowed me to push down on the radiator hose with one hand and pull the rope with the other. When the hose was clear I tied the rope to the front tow hook. Worked great.
You could always get a couple clean 1 gallon containers. Drain a couple gallons from the radiator petcock. Remove that hose or remove thermostat housing and replace while your in there. Replace coolant.
I use an allen wrench to break it loose and remove it FIRST. Just be sure that it fits snugly. It might be better for you to drain the radiator and remove the hose if this is your first attempt as the fuel lines can be an absolutely bear to get loose also. Take your time and don't force anything. It can be a little tricky depending on finger size and dexterity.

Exactly how I have done it several times and works great...
Thanks for all the advice. I missed some good ideas from you guys while I was in the garage. I got it done by just shoving it aside. I need to invest in magnetic bits so that when the socket doesn't fit I have more options. I finally just held the bit with my hand and turned it with a small 1/4 wrench. It worked, but if there is a next time that hose is moving first. Time to relax. . Cheers.
