i have been looking at all the threads about 6 litre tune up, most people use msd or other aftermarket cap and rotor. i usually get parts from napa or bumper to bumper too, are their higher priced caps worth it? i'm just wondering if it matters on the cap if i increase my gap and bump the timing. the msd is a lot more than napas, too. does it pay? its just a stock truck.
i noticed the diff with the msd over the stock motorcraft.. i did the whole tune up with msd and loved it.. i also sea foamed it as well.... just do what u can afford and go from there.
I am not sure if msd is any better or not, but I just did a tune up 6 mths ago, back with all stock cap n button with autolite gapped stock.
Then I found the 6 litre tune up and wished I had known about it. For the money it is not bad. Do a search and someone posted a link to buy a whole kit from summit I believe. Think it was under 100 dollars.
Good luck and the bigger coil with bigger gap is what does it.
looking on napaonline.com, they list msd #8482 cap and rotor as Napa part #BK 7357271, for 351 and 460, but summit racing lists msd #8482 as just for 351. Will this work for my 460? otherwise, summit has #84085 for the 460. just want to get everything right on my order before i checkout. thanks!
Best cap by far is the MSD very well made and the wire retainer is awsome, all I use. No you won't see a power gain just from the cap unless you make other changes then other caps will let you down. These won't let the wires come loose, are the best for retaining the spark and will last as long as possible.
Just the cap and retainer red #8408($24.95) in black #84083($27.95) and with rotor red #84085($31.95) prices are summit racing.
