AE can do most anything the NGS tester can do with the exception of flashing the PCM. The most important tool that you can have is a good manual that describes the systems and the steps to follow when troubleshooting. The OEM emissions and diagnostic manual for you truck is a key manual that really helps. It can be bought on ebay for between $30- $60.
I haven't tried PATS programming with mine because my keys don't have that system. I know if you get into the different modules it is probably an option.
As far as the Buzz Test you should be able to hear the injectors buzzing as well as see the tach moving. Did you have the key to run when you did the test?
but I don't know why it didn't work the first 3 times that I tried it.
I still don't see any options to select sensors in the pull downs. I will try a different laptop brand (I was trying with a Lenovo). My HP has Windows 7 on it, so I was trying to stay with XP.
Should I be able to hear the buzz test? AE says "performing test", but I don't hear anything. I this a visual thing or should it be noticeable to a person's ear? Should I be checking some of the boxes in "Acuation" in the lower pane?
Edit: Never mind. It worked this time. Not very well written software. Why do I not see any sensors in the pull downs on the data logging?
Are there any primers on this software besides what wood-n-things has? His helped, but for the price of this software, it should provide better human interface.
The software when set-up for the configuration of the truck has all the sensors listed. Have you loaded the VIN or specified that you are on your year, make, model, engine combination? I know that most of the 7.3L trucks do not seem to pull up on the VIN search, but if you load the information everything will pull up.
Sending you a PM with my number, if you have any other questions.
