Mine is a 2.92 That's kinda short for a 29" dia tire and OD. You'll be running 1581 rpm at 70 mph in OD, 2370 in 3rd. A 3.5 final gear ration might be better 1895 rpm at 70 on OD, and 2841 in D.

2.75 is nice for cruising on the highway, but not much else. With a 302, I think that a 3.5 might be a better all round gearset. Having said that, I don't know enough about the AOD trannys. Depending on the overdrive ratio, you could go to a 3.73 or even a 4.11. Find out the final drive ratio with the overdrive in, and then plug those numbers into a good gear ratio calculator which you can google to find. As well, if you are running a vacuum gauge, you can find out what rpm makes your motor the happiest and use that information as well to find your ideal rpm. Hope this helps. Good luck.

The AOD info I found says OD is 0.667 ratio. A 3.70 rear end would give you 2003 rpm at 70 mph.

Hey bud, Yeah I researched and searched and then I searched some more and I found 3.70 gearing would be best for my 302/aod setup for daily driving. I have 28" tall 275/60/15 tires in the back. With the 3.70 gear ratio and .67 overdrive, I've found people say that "you can have your cake and eat it too" by having good "get up and go" in town and good gas mileage on the highway.

and 3.55 wouldn't be bad either.. slightly lower hiway rpms, still enough to spin the tires off the line..

My truck has/had (it's in a million pieces right now) a 3.73 with a 302/C6 combo. You ain't gonna win a drag race, but it's got the get up and go, and cruises easily.

I agree with the 3.70. My build is a 383 sbc stroker, AOD and 3.70 with 265-70-15.
