Trans Fluid Question
I have a 2004 F-350 Powerstroke Diesel with the F5R100 Trans. with 120,000 miles. My question is I'm not sure if the fluid in the trans has ever been replaced, would you recommend just changing the fluid or flushing the whole system?

Drain the pan, remove it, clean the screen and replace the external filter. This will allow you to see if there is any metal on the magnetic plug and if there is anything in the screen. You will only change 8-9 of the 17 quarts but it will be a start. Only way to do it on high mileage vehicles.
Don't worry about "new high detergent fluid". Use the Ford Mercon SP if you can find it or the new Mercon LV that your truck calls for and you will be fine.

You can only do a flush on a 5R110 (that's the trans you have, also known as the TorqShift) with a heated flush machine. If the machine isn't heated you'll only change about half of the fluid, which is about 8-9 quarts.
