I'm thinking about changing the trans fluid in my 88 f-150. Its the Mazda 5 speed manual. What type of fluid do I use? The Haynes manual said to use Mercron, but isn't that an Auto trans fluid? Help out a newbie...
I've always used atf in all my standard shift vehicles, because on those really cold mornings gear oil will try to make your trans. stick in whatever gear it was in. I've seen many truck do this.
Brian...yeah, the manual tranny uses Mercon. When I changed the fluid in my '89, I used some kind of shift-improving product from BG in addition to the Mercon. Didn't hurt, but didn't help.
