I have experience with Flowmaster Orig. 40's and Super 44's placed right before the axle with tail pipes coming out at 90* behind the rear wheel. Sounded deep and interior noise was acceptable.
My next project, I have a 38 gal rear fuel tank now. I can't go over the axle and out at 90* behind the rear tires without:
1. getting too close to the fuel tank
2. clearing the fuel tank but having the tail pipes ridiculously low and hideous looking.
I am going 90* before the rear wheels, so this is a new game. Where is the best spot for the muffler? I want to retain the deep sound, and don't mind a bit of interior drone/noise.
I can go from the x-pipe to muffler to 2 1/2' s-bend offset to 90* tail pipe bend,
or to get the muffler further back, x-pipe to 2 1/2' s-bend offset to muffler to 90* tail pipe bend.
Keep in mind I'm running exhaust on the rolling chassis, and can not fire the engine to test for sound. The motor is still a virgin
Stats:
- Well built 460, expecting 550ish hp/tq.
- Flowmaster U-build dual 3'' kit
- L&L headers with 1 3/4'' primaries
- Jegs X-pipe kit with exhaust cutout provisions
- Doug's Headers Electric Cutouts
- 2x Flowmaster 50 SUV mufflers
For the record, the exhaust is on center, its the engine/driveline offset to the pinion that is off. And as you can see, I'm not in a position to give a sound clip yet...
