I checked everything I could think of again, switched relays, checked pending codes, two this time P0103 and P1443.... don't think either will cause my problem??
P1443 EVAP Vacuum System, Purge or VMV Fault
Several conditions can cause this code to be set. A loose or broken gas cap, a damaged carbon canister, damaged or plugged fuel vapor hose, a damaged purge solenoid, Purge Flow (PF) sensor or Vapor Management Valve (VMV) are all possible causes. A multimeter or scan tool can be used to test the components.
here is my opioion........if the flex fuel system is similar to the AC system.........your AC system has a better chance of not breaking if you tun it on once in a while.......
After switching relays I found a vacuum leak going to the EGR, fixed that. Decided to drive today, drove about eighty miles with no problems. On the way home it died again, only this time I when I let the clutch out it started, I had the gas floored, engine revved to 4000 grand before I let off the gas. If I kept the RPM above 3500 it smoothed out and ran fine, if it dropped down close to 3000 it would die, so I drove it keeping it above 3500 all the way home. About an hour after I got home, started and idled like normal. Sensor problem?? If so which one??
I don't have the specific troubleshooting steps for your P0103 and P1443 codes. Maybe somebody on here can chime in on that. I would be particularly suspicious of evap system. Next it time it acts up try removing gas cap and reinstalling and see if starts up and runs. Also found info below on how to clean valve on evap system. Might try to see if helps.
P1443 code on 97 ranger the evaporative emissions contol valve....find your charcoal canister then folow the hose towards the intake manifold...first piece of equipment is the valve next in line is the sensor...the valve is a solenoid plunger type valve that can gum up causing it to stick...remove it from the vehicle and clean it with some carb cleaner if possible jumper 12 volts across the 2 pins to excercise the valve...I did this and no light in the last 4500 miles.
Thanks Maz, I think I have the P0103 fixed, I'll pull the EECV valve and clean it. I think I'll check codes one more time...... with a little luck I'll down to one!
