I have a 2004 EX XLT that did not come with the autolamp feature. I went to th salvage yard and picked up a sensor and switch. Pulled the empty sensor panel and installed the new. (This was factory pre-wired) I installed the new switch and everything works great except my auto lamp feature. Am I missing soemthing? Do I need to have my VSM reprogrammed?
Could you be missing the relay for that part of the lighting system. It could be you needed the sensor and a relay for it all to work. Also, from those who have it already, is the headlight switch the same of is there an extra option on the switch for auto lamp?
Okay I looked through all of the fuses and everything is good there. It is possible that a relay is missing but I'm not even sure where to begin looking for that.
Check the owners manual for the fuse layout. Mine is an 04' XLT, but it came with auto lamps. I'm at work now, but my guess would be a relay that needs to close or open to send the power to the auto lamp sensor?
In the owners manual it talks about some key on/key off plus other things to set the time delay. That would make me think there is something in the computer that controls it? If that was true you'd need to enable that feature somehow. Probably only at the dealer.
Bringing up this oldie but goodie, did anyone ever figure out how to add an auto light feature to one without? Interested in doing this on a 2001 Excursion that also does not have auto lights. I can get the right switch and dash sensor easily enough but what else would be missing?

yea i did.........
Reach over and turn headlight switch to the right whenever you need to have light..
It's pretty simple really. A switch and the sensor and your all set. Well, except for the $300 bill at the dealer to reprogram the computer. Learned that the hard way!! My truck was already wired for the sensor so all I had to do was plug it in. Switch was plug in too but the computer has to be programmed.
