Need to draw on everyone's experience here. I have a '79 with a standard cab equipped with factory air and automatic (c6) tranny. The cab has rust over the drip rails and in a seam just below the door striker, not to mention a couple other minor spots. I found a replacement cab (standard of course) online from a '77. It has factory air and is was equipped with an automatic tranny as well. Am I right to assume that the '77 will be a perfect swap for my '79 cab? From what I know about these models, the cabs are identical for the most part. I'd feel even more confident if the replacement cab were a '78. To my knowledge, the main differences from a '77 to a '78/79 was the front grill & headlights. Is there anything else I need to be comparing before I purchase the '77 cab, expecting it to mount right onto my '79 chassis?
should go right on. Only difference would be if it came from an early year 77 f250 4x4 with narrow rear frame. Even then it would still work just need to drill 2 new holes for rear cab mounts.

Thanks for that info. Guess I could get the guy to measure the distance between the holes in the rear cab mounts. The cab is across 2 states else I'd do it myself...
The only other difference would possibly be seatbelt configuration. The 79 had shoulder and lap belts but I think lap belts only was still an option in 77
OK, I need to amend my original post. I got the VIN from the seller and turns out the truck cab is from a '78 F250 4x4, not a '77. With that said, I'd like to put this cab on my '79 F150 4x4 chassis. Is there any problems I might face in doing this? I guess my main concern is the frame widths and mounting locations on the frame on a F150 vs. F250.
More help from the experts out there is greatly appreciated!
I just finished swapping out my 77 cab with a 78 and it went on with out any hiccups. I did some research and i was pretty sure that for the most part you could interchange between 75 and 79
Ok that is great to hear! I hope to get this cab on a truck and headed south soon. I really appreciate your insight on this one. I'm doing all I can to eliminate any surprises before I pull the trigger and have it shipped 1,000 miles across 2 states.
Dang are you sure it is rust free and worth the money...I spent 300 but I had to remove it from the truck and when I got it back and started digging I found rust everywhere...just finished replacing both floor pans, rear window rest, lower doors on both sides and lots of other small places. I hope yours is in good shape for the money ... if you have any questions let me know
73-77 has safety neutral/BU lights sw on steering column under dash and 78/79 its on the trans. Not sure if you might have a wiring issue to deal with?
as for wiring use the coulmn and harness from your original cab if there in good shape...as for the cab its a direct swap no issues... i've swap everything from a 68 onto a 78 and alot of others in between....theres nothing that complicated about any of it...
