I have a 78 standard cab that needs replacing. I've heard that the 78-9 cabs are the only ones that can swap. The 73-77 cabs look identical to me, and those are the only ones I've been able to find. What is different about them? Are the mounts in different locations or something?
from what i've seen theyre the same as well, im pretty sure the only different ones are on the 73-77 f250s with the narrow frame. plus they have the in cab tank. anything should work that is off a similar truck, what are you putting the cab on?
all the cabs are the same. keeping body style specific you can pull a cab off a any 73-79 F100-350 2wd/4wd etc and it will fit. You may need to modify the floor pan (if the 4wd bolt on cover isn't there) but other than that they will bolt on
I believe in 75 they started putting the shoulder seat belts in, but for sure they started in 76. The only difference in the mounting bolts is in the rear of the cab. The 73-77 cabs rear mounts are narrower than the 78-79 cabs. If you look underneath, the other holes is there only through one thickness of sheet metal, just drill through. Then on the inside you have to cut a access hole in to put the bolt in, just measure the center distance from the bottom and transfer the hole.
wiring harnesses so keep your harness from your cab and swap it into your new cab because 73,74 had one harness, 75-77 had another harness, and 78,79 had another one the only other differences are holes for trim like rocker (Ranger XLT) race track and single top style line trim. its easier to put holes in for trim then to take them out
