Door dings

I just noticed that the F-150's (and several Ford car models) no longer have any type of raised bumper or protective strip on the doors to protect from door dings.

Have any of you who've owned for some time noticed a difference? More apt to get door dings?

Not that this would affect my decision to buy the truck... just curious.

the metal is a lot thinner on the trucks than what it used to be...
I have seen some type of sound deadener that comes in sheets with an adhesive material on the backside...the stuff kind of looks like rubber roofing material..I think I am going to take my doors apart in the spring and try and put this on the inside of the doors...should cut down on road noise and stiffen up the ding prone doors and panels..

I think that most painters supplys carry this stuff..

One day the wife and I went to the grocery store and I proceded to park like we always do,way at the back of the lot...there was an older guy waiting for his wife, parked near us but where he cut see the front door..
as we pass his car he yells out the window to me "don't matter where ya park the *******s will get ya" and started laughing....he said thats why he sits in the car and waits for the wife...lol

I ended up with a couple of door dings up high on my driver's side door - one was there when I bought it new and one I did when I swung the door open and hit the mirror on the truck next to me (big doors). I got both of them popped out at a Dent Doctors. They did a great job and you can't even tell they were there. Not sure if the skins are thinner than previous years. They may be - I didn't hit the truck mirror very hard. Still a great truck though!

There are a nuber of outfits that can fiw small dents easily without painting and other stuff.
The only caveat to door strips is that they hole salt and can be a source of rust.

Fortunately, I haven't gotten any dings in my truck yet. The wife's 2008 Taurus X looks like it's been through a mine field. She was always careful where she parked and it didn't matter. Kinda like what that old guy told murph1.

I have yet to get my first "ding", but its because I have been going above an beyond to keep it dent/ding free. But I know it is inevitable. I just hope I don't see the idiot that does it ..... for their sake.
I've been tempted to order a couple of these.

My dealer offered to sell me a paintless body ding repair package when I bought my truck last month. Sounded kinda neat but I didn't have the the funds to afford all the extras they throw at you when figuring the final purchase price. Bottom line... check with your dealer they just might have the tools and talent to fix your little dingys.

If the vehicle that gave you the ding is still beside you and you are absolutly sure it is the one from color match up and door swing angle I can only say one thing,{paybacks are a bitch}.
