Maybe there is a way to do this but there doesn't appear to be. Since there is no side protection for door dings, leaving the running boards down when parked appear to offer a lot of protection from cars. It would be a great option to have the boards stay down every time the truck isn't running and you get out. What I have to do every time I park is go to settings and select boards down then next time truck is driven they do go up ( which is good) but settings go back to auto. I can live with it but it is sort of a pain to go through the menu every time I park to keep them down. Any ideas?
I thought that the running boards would afford some protection also and it does somewhat.
But after a $600 ding in the passenger rear door, ,my opinion now is parking in the back 40.
That was on a 2012,, the board's didn't retract.
Not sure if this is known knowledge but on aftermarket amp steps if you open the door and place your foot on the step and then shut the door after it goes through its cycle it will permanently stay down until you reopen and close the door
im sure it's the same on the factory ones so try it!
This is a feature to also help washing the roof and in situations like this.
