I have a 1999 f250 XLT with tow mirrors. But the tow mirrors do not extend, but they are power. If I were to buy power extending mirrors with signals in the side, would the bolt up, and would there be a pre-exisiting connector for the signal?
Also did Ford make the described mirror? Power, Extending tow mirror, with signal?
Yes it would bolt up, but you might have to modify the new mirror, at least I did. As for the connections if the mirrors are the new style mirrors then the connections will be different.
Ford did not make a power fold/extend until 2008. They are pricey, but nice. Yes, they will bolt right up, provided you remove one of the alignment tabs. Simple task. There is not adapter harness, you will have to rewire them. Hope this helps!
By the way, don't buy the power fold/telescoping 2008+ mirrors, they totally suck! The 2003's are so much better, you should buy mine when I take them off to do the... um, well, nevermind WHY I am taking mine off.
Sounds good. Sounds like it will be an 1.5 hour job with a great outcome. My next question is, I wanna add some amber cab lights. Seeing as they're not there, the connectors prolly won't be either, I'll have to tap into the parklights somewhere?
I just bought a set of mirrors of a 2000 Excursion to put on my '99 F350. My existing mirrors are power and the new mirrors are power & defrost, but the new ones will extend in and my old ones will not. My existing plug is round with three wires (red, blue, yellow) and the new mirrors have a rectangle plug with more wires (2 black, purple, red, green). I don't plan on hooking up the defrost. Is there a conversion plug or is this something I need to splice? Does anybody have a diagram as to what color wire will go to what color wire?

Thanks!
Earlier in this thread it was mentioned that I would have to splice the old connector to the new mirror, so it would hook-up. There's several different ways you could go about it. If you have a test light, looks like an ice pick but with a ground wire at the back of it, and a light inside of it, testing the different wires you could pretty much figure out which wire was which. It's what I plan on doing!
I put 05 mirrors on my 99. The wiring colors for the power glass portion was the same so that was easy. But I ran my own wires for the turn and parking lights and the heat. Used the defrost switch from a 94 Explorer since the timer is built in. Easy to wire up.
The lights I wired to the switch for parking and to the harness in the kick panels on each side for turn signals.
