2006 to 2008 tow mirror swap??

I currently have the 2006 tow mirror that are heated, power, and have the integrated signal. Would I be able to swap them out for the 2008 heated, power, integrated signal, without the power extend? Could I just plug and play or would I have to worry about wiring? I smashed my passenger side mirror so I was just thinking about replacing both with '08 mirrors.

Thanks, DB

Im just wondering if the wiring has to be changed or any splicing needs to happen? And if its fairly easy to do.

I replaced mine and the vendor that I bought them from also gave me the wiring codes to splice together. Ford changed the plug and the colors. The only thing that is weird is the left-right on each mirror is reversed but its not a problem. I love my 08 mirrors, so much bigger glass to see all that smoke and that little bow-tie being left behind!:-)

are you guys switching to the '08 mirror switch as well so you have the fold back option?? Does the mirror fix exactly the same?? I was wondering they would..

No.. You have to use additional switches for telescope and fold.. There is no way to fix the mirror adjustment.. I've tore apart one mirror only to see it break, I've also looked over our factory switch (I'm an engineering major) and the way the switch is designed, I can't modify or reverse polarities to switch the way the mirrors go.. It's not a big issue to me as I set them once and I never move them.. Spot mirror is so large it covers the blindspots, from top of the bed to bottom of my tire with 4.5" Lift and 35's..

I'm sure there has to be a way. It might take 10 relays, but there's got to be a way. lol.

The problem is simple.. In order to make the mirrors work right, we have to be able to reverse the polarity the right way.. After careful review of the factory switches in 99-07 models, there is really no way.. Not even reconstructing the switch will work.. I even thought of putting a polarity reverser downstream on the left/right wires but that won't work...

If Ford would have kept the mirror switch close to factory, it might have worked lol...

so basically it is not a simple circuit, and must use a module and the switch from the '08 is just the input to it? does it have a position sensor or just assumes it is open or closed position?

Correct.. I might can take the internals of the 08 switch (if I can find one) and put it into the internal of the 99-07.. I'd have to see the switch.. Most times, mirror switches are nothing more then circuit strips with wiring that gets reversed depending on contact from the hand switch.. Those are easy to rework with a spot solder (very very very fine point soldiering needle), however ours are not like that..

we are slow today maybe I will look at the schematics and see what the circuit involves and post it..I am assuming it uses the SJB or another module as you have described it's operation.
