Thanks Gage. @BigPigDaddy, I had a guy polish it for me. He does blowers and things like that. Just an independent guy. He ground off all of the numbers on the outside ring and smoothed it out. He does great work. It would go on a show truck. My truck is a DD so it didnt need to be this good but thats how this guy does everything. I am into it $150.00
You know bpounds I asked the guy who did the polishing if I should and he said no. I dont know as everything I have ever had polished was easily accessable and cleanable. This will be some work to keep clean.
jetact,
That's damn shiny. I poked through your gallery, but couldn't find any photos of it installed?
I went for exterior color match myself. A few coats of paint and a few coats of clear sealer and it seems to be holding pretty good so far. Around 7 months now since install.
Well,,, you did post the photo of the freshly polished diff cover at 09:47 AM so I figured you would have had it installed by dinner time including a few hours of allowing the new seal to cure and filled up with full synthetic fluid.
I'll be looking forward to seeing it installed.
I don't know if you actually need the input or not, but just in case it might help you here's a few links to some very helpful information reguarding diff covers and fluid changes:
@Rick. LOL !!! Yes I was thinking that I should have torn it down today and did it but we are expecting some snow today and end of the week. I think I will look at it for a bit and wait for the weather to get a bit nicer. Thanks for the links to the info. I had see a few of those and was going to look them back up for bolt size and oil type. I have the limited slip and have read on some threads that people have and have not had to add the limited slip juice. Thanks again for the help.
If you go with full synthetic gear oil you'll be ok without the limited slip additive (products like Royal Purple are pre-loaded with limited slip modifier). The full synthetic oils are more expensive, but I'm convinced you're better off with it (only my opinion of course). I'm sure you'll get many suggestions re: dino vs synthetic and brand vs brand, but the bottom line is,,, you'll be ok which ever way you go as long as you follow instruction properly for either.
I like the Royal Purple products myself. I've converted my truck 100% to Royal Purple and have had no issue at all with my choice. But you do have several choices so just do a little research and pick a product you're comfortable with. I'm sure you'll be ok with any recommended name brand product you find here at FTE.

Thanks Rick. Yes I will go Synthetic. I pulled my motor this last fall and did abunch of work to it and switched to Mobil 1 turbo diesel Syn. I think it is worth the extra money ($80 for just the oil) to have the syn. I will look for the royal purple with the limited slip modifier in it.
