She does seem to be a bit "harder" person that when she left. But she does seem to be returning back to "normal", (although noone ever claimed to be normal in my family! ).
I have spoke with her commander and some good friends in the unit and we plan on a few "get togethers" starting this weekend to give them all an opportunity to talk about everything in a non-military setting.
I'll cross my fingers that all stays OK...so far so good though. We have always been very close and she does tell me alot.
She gets 3 months off before having to return back to her unit. So 3 months of playing with her car, riding the horses and maybe chasing the neighbors cows around.
2 yrs before she gets deployed again. She just re-up'd for another 6yrs. she likes the lifestyle.
Getting together and talking about what happened is the best thing that they can do for everyone. Trust me on that one. Talking about really does help.

Afghanistan for 14 months....I can only imagine as my time in the service was uneventful other than a 2 week stint that was due to a clerical error so I was shipped home immediately.
It is wierd how it really never hits you until they get home. Yesterday was a very emotional morning...then kind of a scary afternoon when she took me for a spin to try out her new car. Gawd that kid is too much like me. Thank god I know the deputies in this county....I may have to save her butt now!
Welcome home 994TH !! Welcome home.
My heart goes out to those who return home wounded or worse. She did lose 3 of her teammates while over there.
That is just Awesome. Tell her thank you for her service.

Amen to that. Our troops are sacrificing so much for all of us here. Every time I see anyone in uniform in the store or where ever I always tell them "Thank you for your service. I really appreciate it." I don't think they get told enough.
This is Fantastic, GLADE she is home and safe, now Cherish your time with her before she has to leave again. And tell her thank you for her service from me Oh what the heck from all of us here on FTE.
I was wondering when she was due back home. Glad to hear she's back. We all appreciate the freedoms and sacrifices that all our troops have given us.
So she likes that new car of hers, eh???
Oh thats an understatement. We are already shopping for programmers, CAI kits, exhaust. Sheesh... Gonna be just as bad as me on my truck. All the wanted goodies.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes. It sure is nice to have her home again. I actually sleep better at night now. Used to be I slept real light and the slightest sound would wake me up. Her first night back she rolled in about 4am. I barely woke up enough to hear her say "It's just me dad" and I was back out. Despite the fact that she is 24, shoots a freakin M4 and is a qualified sniper, and drives the big MRAPs in convoys, she will alwys be my little girl. Tough to see her more than a teenager. Especially when she sent me pics of the guns she carries. Just not fair...I taught her how to shoot and now she has better guns than I do and can out shoot me. I think I need to ground her.
Glad to hear she's home safe and sound as well. I was ther for a while in 2008, Christmas sucks ***** there by the way, it's something I'm glad I did and hope to never do it again but will if I'm told too. For those with family there or going there, if they are going to Kandahar Air Feild nad will be staying "inside the wire" so to speak, then there are almost as safe as if they were home . The big fear and the unknown are for those that go outside of the base to do thier job. I've been full time Canadian Military for over 21 years and after seeing and hearing from the members from ALL countries that are over there protecting us here I have a new found respect and appreciation for who they are and what they do. We shared ramp spare there with the U.S. Marines and to see everyone working together to get'r done is pretty cool , we shared parts , pieces and manpower and had a blast doing it.
Sorry about hi=jacking this thread a bit but we all need to know just how good a job these men and woman are doing for us.
