OT - SHE'S BACK!!!!

Over the past 14 months, I have tried to put out of my mind just where my kid is really at. But you hear of everything going on over there in the middle east and cross your fingers nothing bad happens. Well yesterday I got to see her walk in to the same building she left from, in one piece and healthy.
Afghanistan for 14 months....I can only imagine as my time in the service was uneventful other than a 2 week stint that was due to a clerical error so I was shipped home immediately.
It is wierd how it really never hits you until they get home. Yesterday was a very emotional morning...then kind of a scary afternoon when she took me for a spin to try out her new car. Gawd that kid is too much like me. Thank god I know the deputies in this county....I may have to save her butt now!

Welcome home 994TH !! Welcome home.
My heart goes out to those who return home wounded or worse. She did lose 3 of her teammates while over there.

That's great news. I wish they all could come back this way. Keep her close and slow her down.

I understand how you feel. My son was in Fallujah, Iraq as a Marine point man on his squad. He is home now at age 22 but lost 60% of his hearing. A part of him never really came home though.
No one really understands what we have given to this country to protect their freedoms unless like us being parents of those who serve.
God bless.

JUst my advise but keep the lines of communication open. Just say you are there if she wants to ever talk about things.
My son broke down one time when he had a few drinks and disclosed the horrors of war he experienced. He is tormented and has that distant look about him.
Its all too sad that our children had to experience such life changing events and how the families are so affected.
Don't get too upset if she is short once in a while with you and just reinforce the constant love.
Hopefully we will get the hell out of there already!

I am so happy for you. May we all take the time to remember those who sacrifice so much for the good of others. God bless each and everyone.

Thats wonderful news! So thankful to our current group of military. Not the same kind when I was in, different times. These folks are as mission focused as any before them. Congratulations and I hope there is lots of R&R before another deployment.

She does seem to be a bit "harder" person that when she left. But she does seem to be returning back to "normal", (although noone ever claimed to be normal in my family! ).
I have spoke with her commander and some good friends in the unit and we plan on a few "get togethers" starting this weekend to give them all an opportunity to talk about everything in a non-military setting.
I'll cross my fingers that all stays OK...so far so good though. We have always been very close and she does tell me alot.

She gets 3 months off before having to return back to her unit. So 3 months of playing with her car, riding the horses and maybe chasing the neighbors cows around.
2 yrs before she gets deployed again. She just re-up'd for another 6yrs. she likes the lifestyle.
