Does anyone on the forum sell Motorcraft Cooling System Additive along with the test strips? Trying to change back from the Final Charge ELC in my early '99. Dealer has one bottle, no strips. Thank you
I also have a e99 and I hope that you aren't switching because of problems with seals if so it is too late. Hopefully you are doing it because you don't want seal failure. I have never charged from old school green and have problems with keeping my SCA's correct using the NAPA brand. Use the VC-8 it is also on sale at Motorcraft diesel engine coolant system additive And as far as the VC-9 goes it wouldn't be a bad idea to flush with it before going back. I was told that VC-9 is what I was told to do by the dealership when flushing ( iron and tap water throws off the ph)and start fresh with the VC-8 because the NAPA brand is a DC-2 and VC-8 is a DC-4 or at least I think that was what it was. I don't remember. Actually there was a very good write about it here(FTF) a few weeks ago. Stewart didn't you do a write up on that one ? But there was some GREAT info on that tread. I'll see if I can't find it.

Good memory bro. I post so much coolant info on FTE, I actually forgot about that post.
That's a thread I put together from all the information I could find posted by Gooch, as well as through PM's with him. Gooch is a coolant expert and posts on various diesel forums on the 'net.
In regards to your SCA question, DCA-4 contains phosphates, so it's even more important you do not use tap water to refill your engine.
Tap water is hard water. Some places have very hard water. The problem is, hard water contains calcium and magnesium (minerals found in tap water), which reacts with the phosphate inhibitors in DCA-4 to form calcium or magnesium phosphate, which typically leads to scale formation on hot engine surfaces.
This could lead to loss of heat transfer or corrosion under the scale
So make sure you use distilled water to flush out the tap water you use to backflush your engine block.

Here I go, quoting myself...isn't that like talking to yourself? Am I still ok if I don't answer myself?
HaHa Stewart Yea it is like talking to yourself but it was all for a good cause. Thanks I needed that to remember about the differents in Dc-2 and DC-4. I have yet to try adding the VC-8 cause the NAPA brand only seems to keep my levels in check for about a month at a time. Actually I need to start all over with a flush and all NEW.
CAlli, I use Baldwin test strips and get them at a semi truck parts store. But make sure before you buy test strips to check the exp. date. Yes they do go bad. You want fresh ONES !!
[quote=Stewart_H;9968195]Wes, VC-9 is not a Supplemental Coolant Additive (SCA), it's an iron remover used to flush the engine's coolant system.
thanks stewart i called my ford dealer who i know realy well i buy alot of parts from him as a body shop . i asked him how much fw15 was he told me he did not have it . i said what does your service dept use . silence than " the generic stuff we got in the 55 drum. the only thing we got is the vc-9." i called my orielly parts house guy do you guys have coolant additive (sca) ? no we dont . he called me back ten minuites later hey ------- ford down the street has the vc-9 stuff you want me to get it for you?.. it amazes me that no one understands this . but i was guilty to as i only used green original style added fw15 pobbibly the first two changes in my truck. than just straight antifreeze last couple with tap water to boot. thought i was doing good switching to elc but now gonna flush and start agian. i wonder how many water pumps they sold later because of there practice?
RNH. Very much appreciate the offer but I ordered the strips from RiffRaff this am. Ordered the additive from Motorcraft Diesel last night. Just seemed like I could find both in one spot. Guess that would be too easy.
Thanks again, I owe you one.
