Chips?

I am holding off on the headers, though I will be putting a new exhaust on this weekend minus the cat and a drop in K & N. So what chip would be to my benefit. Remember, this is for 4 wheeling not racing. Thanks guys.

Chips work by reprograming fuel and spark curves to use higher octane fuels. Thats why you have to run 92 octane fuels with chips. Unless, of course, you mean a custom chip to 'take full advantage' of your modifications. I'd hold off till you do some extras (like that header, maybe some head work and definately an injector swap), then get a custom chip burned specifically for you.

I am just looking for a few more ponies here. I don't want to get as radical as adding a cam afterall it is still my daily driver. I am a weekend warrior that likes to run sand dunes and am looking for a little more wheel spin.

Whittey- It sounds as though your are very knowledgeable so what do you suggest. Others feel free to respond as well.

on a stock, speed-density 300, a chip will not do much, if anything, except cost you more for gas. one you get it modded a little bit with a header, injectors, maybe some head/valve work, and/or a cam, a chip can help you bring the full potential of those mods to bear. but until thats done, theyre basically just a waste of money.

stick with the header and exhaust for now, youll see more benefit from it in the short run while you save some cash for higher-level mods.

Ok, apparently there is no way around it , so what headers and where do I get them for the best price. I checked out clifford performance, and their's is $279 is this a good price and quality piece or can I do better elsewhere. I don't want to crack this motor open yet so I want to stay away from a cam and headwork but what about a throttle body spacer for "bolt-on" performance?

Cliffords is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overprised for their stuff. I'd go with either Hedman or Hooker. Silver Streak has the hedmans i do believe, and hes got a pretty quick truck (for a 300, that is). check out jcwhitney.com, last time i was there i thought i saw the hedman there. may not be listed for your app, but the 80?-86 one will fit with a little grinding.
