I have a 92 4x4 300 with efi
I want to change the exaust from factory
The truck has the split manifold running 2 pipes into converter.
Whati need to know is if i take off the converter and run duel flowmaster 40s.
Will it help my performance .
I do not want it to sound like a pissed off bumblebee
We do not have emmisions testing in KY. so that is noy a problem
well, u wanna keep the EFI manifolds? cuz u can run 2" or 2.25" (no bigger then that, 2" is best) pipe off each manifold and have true duals but the flows are gunna have a raspy sound to em. the inline 6 has a distinctive sound to it. also gotta relocate the oxy sensor or use a false one...
Stick with the exhaust manifolds. I cut mine right after the O2 sensor and it doesn't require relocation. Neck up the manifolds and use 2.25" pipe. I am running to separate flowmasters and exiting in front of the rear wheels. I received a significant power gain at 128,000 miles. Yes the sound will be somewhat raspy around your normal shift point and definitely raspy when red-lined. As far as the sound you have to accept that you cannot reproduce the sound of 8 cylinders with only 6! My opinion is that the sound is still leaps and bounds ahead of the sickly stock exhaust. I like my trucks distinct remix of a deisel logging truck, it is a definite head turner. If you contact me and request some audio I will try to accomodate you. (If your O2 is a 4-wire [or even some 3-wires] it is self-heating and will not be sensitive to the change in exhaust flow)
I know everybody seems to say the 6 won't sound like a V8, but to my untrained ear when I am on the freeway and drop it into 4th gear, it makes it sound rather V8ish to me.
I am running 2.25 duals on my 84 with a Flowmaster. It doesn't sound raspy at all, It has a nice thoaty sound at idle, and it sounds like lugged down diesel when you get on it. I had a guy thinkin I was runnin a 351 he couldn't believe it when I told him it was a 300 I6!
Who says you cannot make a 6 sound like an 8, my dunebuggy with single 2 inch to a pair of stacks sounds at idle through about 4000 rpm just like my straight piped 302 in my daily driver, how about that?
