I pulled cable for cameras in an old church building most of the weekend. 4 story- Creepy attic and scary basement. My wife and daughter (who helped) must have said EWWW 99,000,023 times. Some of those ceiling tiles haven't been moved since they were installed in the '70s.
It took 5 of us about 8 hours to sort all of Dad's Ertl Banks, trucks and farm equipment. We were hauling them out by the box load. Now we just need to figure out how we are going to get them sold. There is likely well over a thousand of them.
I don't even think Dad knew how many he had, because they were packed away in every nook and cranny. He had collected for nearly 30 years. What a commitment. I suppose he probably had 15 grand into the collection.
I could bring my grandsons by Curtis and they could reduce the value to junk prices in a could of hours.
In reality, if you are selling, I would check into a special toy auction. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any auctioneers or auction houses that specialize in them.
Search for the "ERTL FARM TOYS buy, sell, trade" page on Facebook and join that, IMO.
Go on there and basically tell them what you told us and ask the best way to go about selling them. I'm sure if you post a few "bulk" pics that have tons of items in the photo that you'll have people coming out of the woodwork that are looking for specific models. Sell the rarest and most valuable first, then possibly start bundling different groups together.
Either way, looks to be a ton of work but I bet the folks on the Facebook group would know a lot more than any of us. The groups seem to be the new E-bay\Chat forum of years past.
Been working on a new project the past couple of weeks, a 98' Viking pop-up! Has heater, AC, fridge, and weighs 700 lbs. so it's a breeze to tow and I don't have to tag it
Picked it up from a guy in Salina who just pulled it out to a small local lake about once a year and sat in the A\C while his grandkids played. The outside was pretty dingy and sorta faded, but the the canvas and upholstry on the inside was in GREAT shape. There are a couple of soft spots in the floor that will have to be cut out and patched in but that shouldn't be too hard, we plan to re-do the flooring with wood laminate to cover up the 90's flooring design. The storage lid literally fell apart on the drive home so we had a custom one made out of diamond plate, looks much better and solid compared to the old plastic junk. Ordered a new set of aluminum wheels and tires to give it a little upgraded look and to replace the old dry-rotted tires.
Everything seems to work but the trailer lights. Only the right rear light works and when I plug the harness into the Jeep all the lights get brighter. When I press on the brake or left turn, ALL the lights (including markers) blink or light up. Ordered some new LED lights to replace all of the fixtures on the trailer so hopefully that fixes it, otherwise I'll be looking at redoing some wiring this winter.
Big plans for it are to pull it when we do off-roading events (like this weekend ) and to pull it on our annual family vacations around the United States. Can't wait to hit up all the national parks and landmarks, should be filled with some awesome memories.
I wish we had a camper, but we don't have a place to store it. I would want an old Aerostream, or Airstream camper to pull behind my old truck. That's my dream but not likely one that is going to happen.
We use the bejeesus out of our 28 ft. "luxury" camper at Marion Reservoir this summer (used it 13 weekends!) but we do pay for covered storage down there. It's a pretty good setup with the storage being a mile from the campsite, covered from rain\hail\snow\sun, cheap, and missing out on the wear and tear on the Denali that comes with pulling it back and forth all summer long. Jamie and the boys really do get excited using it so I suppose it won't be going anywhere anytime soon......
The new pop-up is sort of a dream that Jamie and I have had for years but didn't even attempt until recently. We have owned several pop-ups in the past but have never held onto them long enough to modify and make "our own". Hopefully this one will be covered with bumper stickers of places we visit for decades to come
I want a slide in the bed popup camper- it would be just big enough for Calista and I and maybe even Carolyn (doubt it though). Then I can tow my rig and still have a place to stay :-)
