On this particular one, you have to remove the shaft because it goes through the plastic part of the stator. I'm thinking for the $30 difference in stator and remanf. distributor, I'm money ahead going with the new distributor as opposed to buying a tool.
The op DID receive help and advise....and still is. Granted, the thread took a "fun" turn, but there was never any snideness or sarcasm directed at the op.
I think you need to put on your "big boy" panties, and get with the program!
It is kinda like all your buddies hanging around while you work. They talk about endless dribble while you pull your hair out. It is still nice having them around instead of doing it alone.

That and a 12 pack...

what's sad is people looking for help or advise and all they receive is sarcasm and snide remarks, instead of assistance.
Believe me, you'll know sarcasm and snide remarks when they really hit. We've dealt with that in the past and its not pretty, but it's not an issue at the moment. The guys involved in the funny turn are some of those most helpful people on here.....

Go re-read the thread... the original question was asked Saturday night but the author didn't
come back until Monday morning. During that time, people offered assistance and advice
as much as was possible with the information at hand.
Yes, it was pointed out in a sarcastic manner that the engine could not be a diesel, after
which time the thread took a fun spin through make-believe auto parts and Hollywood
comedy films.
When the OP returned, *he* even contributed to the off-topic fun before the thread got back
on track.
This happens sometimes (especially when the original author isn't around to participate in
the discussion) and I quite honestly support it.
Why? Because this is a community which is made up of people, and people need rest &
relaxation from time to time no matter the situation. Jokes & humor lighten the day.
Add to that, a certain amount of idle BS-ing & chit-chat allows people to become more
comfortable with each other as guys "get to know each other" as well as can happen on
computer screens.
As was noted by ri_truck_guy, you will come to recognize insults and demeaning words
directed at people in a hurtful fashion but there was none of that here, just some R & R
in the OP's absence.

The poster enjoyed the side-track....also found out my 86 Canadian truck that immigrated to the US has an 87 style distributor in it. Now I understand why the rotor wouldn't fit. How a slightly longer shaft and less metal equal $10 more....I'm having a hard time understanding.
I do appreciate all the help and advice, it's given me the confidence to tackle stuff that is at the very edge of my mechanical abilities. Thanks
We're good at driving people to the edge, and then some....
Yepperz. Sometimes we'll get 'em to edge, then give a little shove, just cause it's funny. It's not like we start yelling "FIRE!!!!" in a crowded theater.......
This place would certainly be boring without a bit of humor to keep things light. I think that's what keeps a lot of the most knowledgeable people coming back. It's sure not the endless repeating of certain questions that keep them all here......
