I think this thread has gone *slightly* off topic....
Off topic....Heck, does this KaleCoAuto Supply you speak of sell distributor levitators to help me pull this distributor? That would be worth something to me. If they don't have that, maybe they have a conversion kit from my I6 to make it a diesel, that would be slick, but I'm not sure what I would do with the left over spark plugs!

Well, you would still need the spark plugs to fill the holes.....
I got the distributor out last night!! Thanks for the advice. It just took an ever so gentle screwdriver pry and it popped right out. It looks as if the gear is what hold the show together to get at the stator, but looks like it is a pain to get off. New distributor is $50, stator is $20, seems like it may be worth the $30 not to have to get the gear off. Read somewhere else that unless you have a shop press, you'll likely mess it up. Any thoughts?
BTW..the distributor did have some carbon build up on it. I think it was just a dry o-ring that was making it difficult to remove.
There is a puller made to remove the gear, I doubt autozone or such would have it. Are you just replacing the ignition pickup? I thought they came off from the top of the distributor so removal and disassembly arent required
On this particular one, you have to remove the shaft because it goes through the plastic part of the stator. I'm thinking for the $30 difference in stator and remanf. distributor, I'm money ahead going with the new distributor as opposed to buying a tool.
