EBV and exhaust.

Ive read a few articles about people doing the van turbo and (excuse the lack of the right term) ebv?? I mod all kinds of thing n other Ford products and I would like to remove this and machine my housing.. But I haven't really found a good how to post..

Also Ive seen plenty of exhaust systems that are 5" from the turbo back but the turbo connector is ?? 3" why add a 5" exhaust when the outlet is 3".. Not being sarcastic, just lost in the thought that this would be better..

Some of the cars that we enhance with larger exhaust we always machine the output of the manifolds to match the pipe size.

I hear you. Wondered the same thing myself. I think 5" is probably wasted effort, especially when you consider the up pipes are only 2" dia and still running the stock exhaust manifolds. One of my trucks has factory exhaust which looks like 3 1/2" dia and the other truck has 4" exhaust. The 4" exhaust builds boost a slight bit quicker off the line but then lags a bit as speed increases. The factory exhaust has a small dead spot off the line but comes on quickly and pulls hard through each shift point.

If I was going to upgrade the turbo or increase injector flow then I'd probably recommend a 4" exhaust. 5" exhaust might make sense at extreme power levels due to much higher air and fuel flow requirements. All this is just speculation on my part because I have no real experience with upgraded turbos or injectors. I wonder if anyone makes higher flowing exhaust manifolds and up-pipes and if it's worth while.

I'll be interested to watch this thread and see what sort of information comes out. Good question.

Get rid of the EBPV all together, if you look at the way the power elbow is made for waste gate flow, your better off buying it from Banks. If you want the warm up benefit they make it with the exhaust brake also.
