My friend has a cam in his pontiac and isnt sure how much his cam is advanced since it is an advanced cam. The only thing i can think of put number 1 at TDC and see what the reading is on the timing marks, but im not sure if this is an accurate way to tell. Is there any way to check this WITHOUT pulling the cam. He lost all information about his cam so there is no way to find out without trubleshooting it. Any ideas?
its not my car, i dont know why he wants to know. probably just to make him feel better. He just asked me if i knew of a way to tell and i have had good luck here before. So if anyone knows if this is possible and has any good advice then let me know. Everyone else who just wants to know why i want to know... lets say im curious.
To find the cam timing you will need to know how to degree a cam, and know the cam specs to compare to. It isn't as easy as reading timing marks on the crank.
