Stalling Problem

Hey I have an 1989 F-250 non-turbo 7.3 IDI. The truck is a ZF-5 speed manual. I just acquired the truck and it seems to run well. However, when I slow to a stop from moving (at an initial speed of 40 mph or so in 3rd or 4th gear) the truck will often stall out once I push the clutch in. The truck will start right back up afterward though... I am guessing this issue could just be a the fuel filter. The previous owner thought that it needs an injection pump because it is not delivering enough fuel. Does this stalling sound like it could be an injection pump? I was thinking it is just the fuel filter. I will replace the filter and add some Diesel Kleen to the fuel. Either way I would probably replace the fuel pump before the injection pump.

Sounds as if the metering rod in the pump is sticking. When you change the fuel filter fill it with diesel clean, howes, or your favorite fuel lubrisity additive. Start the engine and let it run for 15-20 seconds and shut it off and let it set over night. Add 2-3 times the recomended amount to the fuel tank you are using, then take the truck for a hard drive. Usually it will clean the pump up, and cure the stalling.
