do you know if they put a shift kit in? one should have installed.
as far as brands go im not sure who to go with. B&M or TRANSGO
I will be putting one in mine. the only update i know of so far is the TC lock up soliniod. but i will be checking for others
this rebuild was 2 owners ago.... It also had some early tranny troubles... .It was rebuilt at 31k miles in 1997.... And there was not another mention of the tranny in the maintenance log. The ford dealer is were the tranny was rebuilt also, so I would assume (there I go again someone slap me!) They installed the upgrades.
Originally posted by termyt00 the e4od is just as strong , if not stronger than the c6....just think about when the c6 came about the problems it had! people were burning them up left an right. ever wonder why you can only use TYPE F in a c6, c4 ? because it contains a friction modifier!
The really bad problem with the E4OD is the electronic shift solinoids which Ford has updated i would recommend doing the updates and installing a shift kit. my 92 f350 has 154000 miles on the OEM e4od im now beginning too feel the shudder of the direct lock up solinoid...good luck
I had no problems with the C4 in my '74 Econoline. All Ford automatic transmissions used type F before '79 because it does not contain friction modifers. Clutch plate and band materials dictate fluid type.
The mechanical weaknesses in the E4OD had to due with the bearing supports and the torque converter, among others. It was not just the electrical stuff.
I'm happy that you have had long life on yours. Many of them did not last over 75,000 miles, especially in diesels.
