Is there anyway too adjust the shift timing in the EEC4 comp ? Also in the shop manuals ford talks about a trans computer located in the right upper kick panel behind the glove box. anyone know anything about this? 92'F350

You might want to post this in the tranny forum. But for what it is worth I know that the newer e4od's have upgraded electronics. Yu might be able to install some of the newer components in you tranny. They should be able to give you specifics in the tranny forum, Iknow they have helped me tremendously.

The shift computer in the R kick is for the electronic BW-1356 t-case, not the transmission. What's the problem with yours that makes you want to reprogram it?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 31-Dec-02 AT 12:34 PM (EST)]I don't think it sucks... Its just not as good a tranny as the C6 or the ZF. Isn't the auto tranny in the current 150s basically a renamed E40D...4R700 or some shiz like that. JMHO.

4R100. It's basically an E4OD with some upgrades made as running changes in production. 1995 was the watershed year. That was when Ford finally got the E4OD right. Changes since then have been very minor. Any older E4ODs can and should be upgraded to current specs when rebuilt.

I've had my eye on the Baumannator for a while.

It's a control unit from Baumann Engineering that lets you program the up/down-shift points of each gear based on rpm and throt position.

the e4od is a c6 with overdrive added to the front. the ford tech manuals will tell you that. the only screwy thing about the e4od is the electronic shift control

I wish it were so, but it is not. The E4OD was a completely new metric design, not a modified C6. At least pre '95, it is much weaker than a C6.

There are shift kits available. My trans shop put one in when they did the rebuild, along with the required updates. Shift points seem to be the same, but shifts are slightly firmer and I now have compression braking in OD.

umm...so is the e4od junky or is it a stout tranny for normal use and some off-road use? i might get 33"s in place of my 31"s and dont want the tranny to die. i was going to get one of those B&M shift kits (that replaces the valve bodies and such)...will i be safe? also what improvements were made in the 95+ years???

Thumbs up E4OD

the e4od is just as strong , if not stronger than the c6....just think about when the c6 came about the problems it had! people were burning them up left an right. ever wonder why you can only use TYPE F in a c6, c4 ? because it contains a friction modifier!
The really bad problem with the E4OD is the electronic shift solinoids which Ford has updated i would recommend doing the updates and installing a shift kit. my 92 f350 has 154000 miles on the OEM e4od im now beginning too feel the shudder of the direct lock up solinoid...good luck

'90 F-250HD 4x4 460ci auto trans

At about 105,000 miles, I noticed the E4OD shifts getting a little sluggish. During a "routine service" I had the shop put in a Transgo shift kit. I noticed a huge improvement in the shift points and firmness. Now at 166,000 miles, the trans is still working and shifting like a champ (even with 35" BFG's). The cost of the Transgo was only about $65.00 as I remember, and the shop installed it for an extra $30.00 during the service.

I have a 92 E150 351/e4OD w/tow package. (rebuilt in 97 so i assume the updates are in place)
this tranny is alot stronger than the old c-6s we had. And we've had quite a few. As with anything if you get a few miles under your belt you will notice differences. My tranny shfts a little soft..... but it should it has 95000 on it and has been used for puling very heavy loads (bigger that the gvw recomendations) and in town driving. I have had no troubles other than the occasional soft shift or bang going into OD...
