over all opinions about the 6.4?

Depends upon your use or plan of use imho.
This is a good hwy/towing motor. Great for the long runs.
Emission is a little hard to get used too. If it is all working properly then it is pretty good.
Not the best ecomony out of this motor but she will perform and strongly.
Maintance is very important on this motor...almost need to be **** about it. So if you are one for checking your fluids weekly and do your oil changes ect..then it is no problem.

I think being **** about the maintence is absolutely important. The emissions crap sucks but is WAY better then the 6.0. The 6.4 will pull anything you hook to it. The trans behind it is the best on the market IMO. There expensive and finiky but i LOVE mine and wouldnt trade it for anything. The power can be doubled and then some with a simple tuning. Im making well over 600 horse with no problems and going for more..

I liked my 6.4L truck, but sadly it died before its time.
In retrospect I wouldn't have a problem owning another one if it were under warranty, but there are enough expen$ive things that can go wrong that would keep me from having one once the warranty expired. It's more the serviceability than anything else, the most expeditious manner to do lots of the repairs is to remove the cab.
I think the 6.4L engines are a substantial amount more reliable than the older 6.0L engine, but when they break they cost quite a bit more to fix!

The 6.4 is great! As stated above, maintenance, maintenance and more maintenance. Preventative maintenance is the key. However, there are many that have neglected theirs and have been fine, but the primary issues seem to be city driving, emissions equipment and lack of scheduled maintenance.
