I have a 1993 Ranger Supercab 4x4 with the M5OD 5 speed tranny on a 4.0l. I need to remove the trans to replace the slave cylinder inside. (bright idea)
I've run into a couple of problems, but so far I've been ok. My problem now is the two bolts on top of the bellhousing. I can't seem to find any way to get to them. Is there an access panel in the floor somewhere?
also, are there any other pitfalls I should watch for while doing this surgery?
I have a "transmission extension" that's about 3' long, 1/2" drive at the female end, 3/8" at the female. Sometimes I have to use that and a universal socket to get to the top bell housing bolts. It really helps. Another trick is to loosen the motor mounts and drop the engine a little at the back so you have more room at the top under the trans tunnel.
