Hey, I have a 1985 460 (.030" over) that ran fine but, I decided to build it a little, and now I have a concern. I did a valve job on some 1977 heads(non adjustable, as the original heads are), installed a cam, intake and headers. It also has ALL new valvetrain componets from comp cams. It seems to run fine except for a consistent popping at idle out the right header. Also, it wants to backfire a bit(right side only) as engine slows from a free rev. It dose this when the engine's cold and when the engine's warm, dose not make a differance where the timing is, or idle mixture. I can probably pull plug wires till the "popping" stops to detrime what cylinder it is, but what good would that do? What should I do, adjust, or check...? Any help? - thanks
Did you measure for the right push rod length ? It could be caused by too much lifter preload.
I determined it to be the number two cylinder(I think), so I pulled those two pushrods and they're the same length as as the original ones. Do you think it could be caused by maby a leaking intake, or head gasket?

I'd get a cylinder psi gauge on it and see what you get. What does the spark plug look like ?
