Snowing here in Sapulpa, ok. Took a good min to get my truck out but when I did get it out the dang trans just stopped. i have reverse but not drive, 1 and 2 or OD. I popped the hood and checked the tranny fruild and it was low. Is there a low transmission fluid sensor in the transmission. Do I just need to reset the computer and everything will be fine. Today i ventured back out into all the snow mess and filled my truck with the required trans fluid. While it was running I tried to put it back into drive again and it still didnt work. any suggestions??? and i hope that none of you tell me i have to replace the tranny....1836.00 later.
Welcome to the site..
You might have a bad selector switch on the trans. The electrical part that sends signals to the pcm to know what gear to go to..Other than that hopefully someone will chime in who knows the tranny real well.

Resetting the computer won't do anything.

You're not going to get your wish. You need a new transmission.

That's not possible. It's called the Manual Lever Position Sensor (MLPS) or Transmission Range Sensor (TRS.) No matter which name you use it cannot keep the trans from going into gear. It can keep it from upshifting from first gear.
Unfortunately I would have to agree with Mark.... Mine went out last month with the same symptoms. When the shop pulled the drain plug the tech said it looked like a Chia Pet. LOTS of metal stuck to it. But you are getting off cheap tho. I paid $2500 for my rebuild. But it is an HD tranny now tho.
