Well FTE I have a question for you. Here's the scenario first. When I turn my lights on there are the two selections one for just marker lights and one that turns the headlights on with the markers, but when my first click for JUST the marker lights is on I have the headlights too. Now when I did my grille conversion I noticed a wire or two snipped on at least one side. Could that be the culprit? Btw the P/O used the truck for plowing
He probably wired the headlights in with the parking lights, and then wired his over-the-plow frog-eye headlights in to the full-out position of the switch. That way he could run the regular headlights with the plow removed, and the frog-eyes with the plow installed.
Pretty sure the DRL's on my truck turn on with the ignition and off when the switch is in the parking light position. I would have to verify for sure, but I know for sure they come on with the key unless the parking brake is set, and I am about 80% sure they turn off when I turn the parking lights on. Plus they are only about 70% of the brightness of the headlights. My guess is that the PO has the wires for the marker lights and the headlights wired together somehow. Probably did it when he took the plow setup off the truck.
If the headlights come on with the parking lights, either the low beam, high beam or both beams in the headlight would come on with the parking lights.
The dimmer switch would not affect the headlights.
If you can change from low beam to high beam, you have something else wrong.
I checked the DRL's on my truck this afternoon and while they do switch on with the ignition (unless the parking brake is set) they DO NOT switch off when the marker lights are turned on. Maybe his truck DOES have DRL's? Do your headlights come on as soon as you start the truck?
