Towing insurance is a must-have for the fellows over on the 6.0 Forum.

Seriously, I took a 3-week long trip last year in our SUV and the discounts, etc. more than paid for the AAA membership. We took advantage of the travel information and my wife decided which things to see and scheduled each day's activities in advance.

If you can get the trailer covered for towing at a reasonable rate, I would recommend AAA highly.

AAA or Good Sam is what I have done. My wife keeps AAA and has had to use it a couple times for nit-noid stuff.

We have used the AAA map service and trip planner. That can be well worth the membership dues. The stuff they provide is first class and is "car sized" so it doesn't take up space like an atlas.

If traveling it is good piece of mind to have this coverage.

I've had the AAA RV Plus for a number of years. $132 a year here, I think.

So far they've pulled me out when I was buried up to the frame in mud in my uncle's front yard. They said they wouldn't do that again though, because I deliberately drove it off the road. They pulled me out of the creek I slid into when trying to back up a stock trailer and dropped a rear wheel off of the bank. And they've pulled my old beater car home 2 or 3 times now.

They'll tow to the nearest shop or home up to 100 miles. Bring you fuel. Give you a jump start. Change your tire. Open your door if you lock your keys in, etc, etc. Another nice feature is they'll tow you no matter what vehicle your in, even if you're not driving. So if you're riding with someone and need a tow, you're covered.

So far, I think I'm into AAA for far less money than I'd be into towing companies for tows and extractions.

Exactly what David just said, its an amazing price for all the service you get and your covered even if your in someone elses car!!
You'll save a fortune over the years even if you only use it once every 2-3 years like me.
I highly recommend it and do not think you can go wrong.

I love my AAA. I have full coverage with them and the premium membership. I also like the fact of being able to "flag down" any tow truck that works with AAA.

Thanks to all for your help.
I just purchased the AAA Premier RV package.
$164 out the door....It will take some of the worry out of my upcoming 1100 mile trip home. Plus I may have to turn around and do another 2200 miles to come back and pick up our construction trailer....

Franko- I figured the same as you, truck has a quarter mil, the Falcon has nearly twice that, and I hate being stuck. About a month after getting my card my truck needed its first tow!

Ill do some more research, and see what can learn.
Thanks for the replys guys...
Check on that. I know with usaa I dont.have to be reimbursed. They send someone they have an agreement with. But with AAA you know you're good so good call.

I have had AAA for 35 Years. I don't have the trailer package, but the 100 miles in any direction for the truck. What I use most is all of the other 'free' benifits of AAA. There are lot of discounts with their card, camping, hotels, theme parks. You can get all of the maps and travel and camping books that you want, free. The 'trip tickets'(maps) show all of the road construction and detours and 'sights' alone the way that many would miss by not having 'the books'. they just did all of my bookings and reservations for Disney World (tickets/campground/meals) with one call from me and I recieved their AAA discount rate. They are not just all about towing, but it is nice to know if a tire blows or I run out of fuel, ect. they are a phone call aways. Two winters ago my '02 froze up going down the road 40miles from home... they sent a flat bed and helped me push it into my heated garage. That paid for more than a years worth of 'dues'.

Is it 'worth' it? You can go 'over board' on 'insurance' and under board. I have the 'middle of the road 'AAA Plus' and that (i think is fine for me). I don't have the 'family plan', because all of the vehicles in my house hold have my name on the titles and I will always be at the vehicle if it is broken down.

Oh yeah, I get 10% off a Napa Auto Parts. I probably blow $500/yr there fixing all my vehicles so there's $50 towards the yearly membership right there.

Da@#, i just spend 150 buks there.

Thing is, you'd be surprised WHERE that discount applies to. Even though, majority of the time, its not posted on the window, doesnt mean, they dont have the discount.

You are right, there have many times that I have asked "Do you give AAA discounts?" Sometimes I get an answer of 'No',.... 'But we will give you 'a' discount anyway." I have now started asking about a 'seasoned citizen' discount since I am on the back side of 50.

Not to bring up bad memories Frank but if you had AAA a few months back you would not have had to back your truck up al the way home.
Actually I wish I had it this morning the cold finally killed both my batteries completely, granted they were both borderline and needed to be replaced but I procrastinated and this mornings cold finished them off. I went WFO and bought Diehard Platinum's 930cca, pricey but 48mos full replacement and another 50mos prorated.

...It was only two miles, I probably would have done it anyhow. But I did have to pay for two tows last year....
