got a beat up 94 ford crew long bed 4x4 powerstroke with a good frame/drivetrain, and a 79 crew long bed 2wd with an excellent body(needs paint) anyone ever heard of a 79 body swap onto a newer 4x4 frame like this, both trucks are complete........how bout it?
We did sort of the opposite back in the mid 90's putting an 89 F150 2 wheel drive body on a 89 F250 4 wheel drive chassis. Ended up putting a 429 in the truck and ran it for years before selling it. It was a bit of work with the mounts, but looked good.
SpikeTV's Power Block dropped an old 70's Ford Crew Cab onto a Dodge 4x4 diesel chassis. It isn't too hard to do, you just have to make sure that the wheel bases are similar if you're looking to drop the old body onto the new frame. If you go to the SpikeTV website you cann find it. I believe they called it the "Super Dually." I'd kill to have an old crew cab but they impossible to find anymore!
what kinds of problems did u run into? im thinking big here,im hoping i can stuff all that componentry under that body,im an interstate trucker, so my work time is limited, hope to have it completed in a year or two...
It wasn't my project, I just watched the show and took notes. I know they have all the information about the build online including the companies they got parts from such as replacement wiring harnesses and such. I'll see if I can send you a link in a bit. And thanks for that site! I'll have to check that out!
For the most part the body fabrication to the frame was not too bad, the front bumper was a bit of work and actually cut off part of the old frame and welded it to the new frame. The steering shaft was a little work too.
