I need some help identifying my distributor in my 64 f250 with a 292. The numbers on it are FDJ 12127 C2(?) I need a vacuum advance canister. The one I ordered for a 64 292 from LMC is not correct. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
FDJ doesn't sound correct to me but I'm not sure. Can you post a picture? You don't need to mail order the vacuum advance. Your favorite parts store should be able to get it. Go to Napa's site and look at the pictures to see if you can find one that looks right.
After doing some research, it appears this distributor is off a 1955 Ford 272 V8. Mac's has a new listing for a vacuum advance for a dist. with this number. Still not sure though...
That is a load-o-matic distributor which very well could be from a '55. I am almost certain it's not correct for your '64. I think the best course of action will be to get a remanufactured distributor. They too are available from your favorite local parts store. You will also need a cap and rotor because they do not interchange with the load-o-matic and they do not come with the reman distributor.
Do you know if it still has the stock carburetor? If the load-o-matic actually functioned properly, then it also has the wrong carburetor, at which point I'd guess that the engine was simply swapped for an earlier one.
The carb is a motorcraft 2100. The truck idles fine but backfires thru the carb when accelerating which started me looking at the vacuum advance which was not working. Now here's a million to one shot question...would a dist from a 64 289 work?? I have a couple laying around the shop.
