I have a new to me 08 SD, and the only thing I can find wrong with it is that the Tow/Haul switch doesnt work. According to the manual, it is tied into the same fuse that the backup alarm uses, and it works fine.
Has this happened to anyone, and is there a quick check or fix?
I have never had a Ford AT, so I am completely in the dark with this.
My 08 250 would allow me to turn tow/haul on anytime, but my 450 will only turn on or off if the truck is stopped and in park. Sometimes there may be a fuse that activates a relay in the underhood fuse box in addition to a regular fuse. This fuse may be labeled tow/haul relay or maybe something else to do with towing relay. I had an 07 that when the power windows stopped working the fuse that was the culprit was labeled instrument cluster. Go figure.
does the light come on in the dash? quick check is if you are going along at 55-60, put it in tow/haul mode and get on the brake, as you slow down you should feel and hear it downshifting, if not, then it definately isn't working.
I had it happen early with my 2008 diesel. It would work when I pulled the shifter towards me while pushing the button. They replaced they entire shift unit and it now works fine. It was done under warranty.
key here for me was to NOT try to change the wire connection ON the button or the connector to the harness.. but in between. (all but the last inch on either side.
