Tow/haul button not working

I have an '08 F250 PSD and I just noticed the other day that my tow/haul button wasn't working. I just bought the truck a couple months ago and thought it was odd that I had to be in park to engage it, but it won't turn on at all. Anyone else have this problem? I have a bad feeling this is gonna be an expensive dealer trip...

I've been considering hooking the tow/haul light up to a small embedded processor that reads the strain on the hitch and the weight on the rear axles... If the load passes a certain threshold, the light comes on.

my dad's 08 tow haul button wasn't working and thanks to this site I was able to find instructions on how to fix the broken wire inside the shifter, use the search feature and read away.
