Rear Differential
Getting ready to do rear differential fluid and transfer case fluid changeout.
1 Can anyone tell me how I can tell if I have Limited Slip or not from the sticker on the truck. Need to know for the limited slip additive.
2 What fluid do you recommend for this??
Thanks for your help!!!

There is probably another one on this site, maybe in the tech docs, but I am not feeling well and don't feel like searching.
EDIT: use the
tech folder version . It's much better. Apparently I felt like searching

Use a good synthetic 75w-140, like Amsoil Severe Gear or Mobil 1, and you won't need any LS additive.

I used Mobil 1, and I sure DID need an LS additive with it - it chattered like a spider monkey.

What is the axle code on your door sticker? If the code has an L or sometimes an N it is limited slip.
37- 3.73
3L- 3.73 LS
41- 4.10
4N- 4.10 LS
43- 4.30
4L- 4.30 LS
48- 4.88
8L- 4.88 LS
53- 5.38
5L- 5.38 LS

I used the AMSOIL. Did not need the additive and the LS works fine. (or at least as well as the Ford LS can work).

I used Redline 75w140, and did not need any additive.
Redline actually recommended I fill without any additive and trying it. If chatter, then add in small quantities (ounce or two at a time) until chatter goes away.
