Lately my CEL has been occassionaly flashing while trk. is at idle, had a friend to scan it today & code # 221 showed up, I think this is for the throttle switch, correct ? Is it much trouble to change out & is it very expensive ? Thanks
you'd have to look at the assembly.
It will pull directly out of the truck.
the IVS is only clicked on when the pedal is not being pressed, and it will click the idle switch on.
When you press the pedal, you should see which one turns just like a regular car TPS
You can test that with an ohm meter holding the leads and checking resistance while somebody, or your forearm, presses the pedal slowly, just looking for jumps in the readings.
Thats all the info I have on it.
They dont often go bad, not something we really deal with a lot around here.
Look in the parts list on the stickies, there might be a part number for the TPS in there.
You can test the Pedal . THe IVS is an on or off switch ,, You need to put a voltmeter across the GY/W and the GY/R wires on the connector to the TPS. With the key on, watch the voltage across the range of the throttle to see if there is any flat spots. You should see no less than .37 volts at idle position and no more than 4.5 volts at full throttle. The the third wire, (BRN/W), is the ref. voltage and should be 5 volts all the time.
Tinkered with it a little today, unplugged the one with the red button & used canned air to blow out & when I plugged it beak up I had no throttle at all & cel was on steady, cut truck off, waited a few mins, cranked trk up & it had throttle but I had to move pedal more than usual. Think the IVS is bad ?
