more LS additive?

My limited slip 10.25 is slipping too much in this snowy weather. Sometimes it's good and they both are spinning, but this other night in the snow I kinda got stuck when just one tire decided to spin. When I put the 80w-90 in there I put one of those 10 fl oz tubes of the LS additive. Should I put another tube in there to get it to lock up more. Don't really want to tear it apart again to add another clutch in the clutch pack.

No, don't do that. The additive is actually to help the clutches slip. Normally when you change the gear oil, you drive it before adding any of the l/s additive. If you hear or feel the rear binding & chirping as you corner, then you add the l/s additive so the clutches slip. Add a little +/- 4 oz) at a time until the chirping/binding stops.
Adding more will only make the slippage worse!

Well our diffs call for only 8oz of additive iirc. i serviced me rear diff this summer and added two 4oz tubes of the ams-oil additive. i dont have a ls mines open but 10oz should be enough. what brand of ls do you have i hear some are too aggressive and some are not aggressive enough.

Don't put any more in. Like Craig said, it will only make it more worthless, I mean slip more.

The sterling LS is more limited than the name implies. Most use less than the recommended amount to get better traction. I'd start with 4 oz, the drive and listen for the chatter like Craig described. Add 2 more oz and test drive again if you hear/feel anything. Repeat until it's all good.

Since you've already got 10 oz in there and don't want to pull the cover again, maybe you could suck some oil out and just add some fresh oil to dilute the concentration a little. I don't know if that would be worth the hassle or not.

Mine pops. but not to severe.
I'd rather have them locked. They break when needed.

Gotta hold the clutch in to turn tight though, just pushes the front end around.
Makes for fun in the snow like that, sometimes the front still wont turn. haha.

Lots of gear oils have the LS fluid in them too. Gotta watch out for that.

Man, I wish I would have posted on here before listening to the guy at the shop. If anything I'd like to have it more on the locked side. Maybe use a Vampire pump to suck out the oil through the VSS hole? And, how am I supposed to here chatter over a Powerstroke and straight exhaust. Not being a smart a$$, just wondering

I dont think you need to go through all the noise of getting a vamp pump.. You can use syphon action with a remenant vaccume hose or something!

Good question! Most of the time you can feel it, almost feels like it's binding up a little. Other ways I've tried to actually hear it that worked okay is to find a tight right turn that has a wall or fence on the passenger side. Windows down, stereo off, low throttle... or have some one else stand outside where you are turning.

Sadly, good parts guys/gals are getting more & more difficult to find.

Edit: I posted the passenger side because that's the way my old neighborhood was set up (fences on the right turns) going around the block.... but the drivers side probably makes more sense as the exhaust is on the passenger side.

Any specific reason you went 80-90w instead of 75-140 synthetic?

Has anyone mentioned that there is absolutely no reason to put friction modifier in a open diff? It's a waste of money. 75-140 or similar synthetic is what's supposed to be in our rears according to the owners manual if you tow anything at all. In my research, I learned that royal purple is the only one that actually advertises that friction modifier is included in theirs. I'm not endorsing them, just stating a fact. It seems to be working in mine though. I rebuilt the limited slip that was on my 350 not to long ago and it was so tight after that the tires would not slip. At all. I doube and tripple checked everything in it too. Go figure. It's now under my kids truck and has loosened up after a couple thousand miles. I've got a detroit locker in mine. I love that thing. Till I have to make a sharp turn on ice. That's not so easy. One of my next mods might be a dual braking system like on our tractors so I can brake steer it. haha.

Mobil 1 also has friction modifier in the 75W-140 synthetic gear oil.

I wanted to put two ARB air lockers in my plow truck.

Wound up with Trac Locks in both axles though.
