i was told at the mechanic shop i need a safety or backup light switch for my lights to start working again..he said it was on the automatic transmisson i have a [C6] ..now what would this switch look like because in my *** book it shows one ..but the mechanic saying to go to a ford dealership to buy it..i have a 1977 ford truck..thank you...
77 ford..well today i went and look under around the my transmisson and cannot find the switch the mechanic said that was there..somebody said it was on the steering column now i have not looked there what would it look like?..now the C6 that is in it was put in before i owned it..but till a year ago the reverse lights was working i even checked the bulbs and wires going to it..
the colum mounted switch should be under the dash, on the top side of the colum. i think the colums with that switch are very thin, about 2" tube, but the 78-79 colums are closer to 4" around, and covered by a plastic tube from the shift ring to the dash...
well i found the switch it was on the column like yall said..not on the transmisson like my ASE mechanic said..lol..then i got on autozone website and found the part there 28 bucks so i guess that is good enough..hopefully that is what is wrong with it..thanks again
before I'd buy a new switch, I'd look to see what the problem with the backup light circuit actually is?
I remember having a time with a switch like that on my '56' Ford sedan. But replacing the switch didn't fix it, and the parts store wouldn't take the switch back.
