Turbo Silencer Ring
Turbo Silencer Ring
Looking for some info on what you guys think about removing the silencer ring from my 04 turbo. Yes i know it has to be machined off. I all ready checked. But my question is if will improve the sound any? I have read a lot about this on other forums and got a lot of mixed opinions on this. For those who will say it will not make the turbo whistle any loader, why is called a silencer ring?
i don't know anyone who has done this to there turbos but i saw this on youtube a while ago about doing the same thing you are talking about.

The ring appears to direct air into the center of the blades, cutting it off cannot improve the smooth flow of air into the turbo.
Did you notice the dusted tubo blades? A good reason not to use aftermarket filters.

I don't think that this is too good of an idea either. I'm pretty sure that ring is there to help reduce "chopping" of the turbo, something that the 7.3's had a few problems with when they were running higher power. Think of it like if you put the wrong pitch prop on a boat and it wont hook up out of the hole, just sit there and spin...

I cant believe that know one on here has done this or at least no someone who has. It seems to be talked about heavily on other site if you look it up. Guess I will have to be to test pilot and have my buddy who owns a machine shop cut mine off and I will let you all know if it works.
