i have a 1987 f 250 7.5 L 460 ci. 4x4. i want to put some headers and new exhaust, i have no idea which is a good brand ive been looking into headman and hooker headers. just wondering if anyone who has the same vehicle has done this to theres . any idea helps as for exsaust i want it loud and what size pipe can i use
well i have a 5.8. i did long tube headers and custom true duel 2 1/2 inch exhaust with a magnaflow 2 in/ 2 out muffler, and 2 magnaflow high flow cats. only problem is i did the 6 liter tune up at the same time and truck runs the nuts. it will roast the tires now... if i want to (could barley even cherp them before) so its hard to say what just the exhaust (or headers) will do?
what kind of preformance increse did you get oout of it
Being able to pull a 7% grade at 5,500 ft, with a 2,500lb slide in camper in the bed and 2,000lbs of boat in tow at 65-70 mph easily, Where it worked hard to maintain 55-60mph on the same grade stock. MPG was slightly increased as well, but with a 460, any improvement is great.
Just ME: Well my trans am came with headman headers and they sound real good & gave me noticble power but if I where to buy a new set I would not get headmen again..
I had my 5.0 I took my flowtechs off before I got rid of it and just got a new 5.8 I am going to put them on...
When put mine on mostly for that little help is gas that would add up over time & I did my o2 sensor at the same time
If did that again I obv (money promitting) would not buy flow techs
hahah good luck!
I put the Headmans on my '96 460. I got a nice boost in MPG as well as a good "seat of the pants" feel. Not sure about the '87 frame set up, but on my '96 the passenger side requires being a contortionist to get to the third bolt as the collector sits right inside the frame rail.
Overall I am happy I purchased them. I'm looking at wrapping mine as I could not afford coated headers when I bought mine.
