I have a 2000 F350 with a V10 and I need to replace the exhaust manifolds. The engine has 83,000 miles on it and runs excellent. I was wondering if anyone has information on switching to headers and what type of exhaust would be needed. Can I run stacks with headers? Is it a bad idea to switch to headers? Will it damage the engine? Any information or sugestions would be greatly appreciated. The reason I want to switch to headers is the cost of new manifolds.
Thanks much
Mike
try searching the forums for your topic Ive seen it mentioned a lot of times but here is a link to a more recent discussion of header and exhaust applications
A good set of headers and y-pipe is a great improvement for the 2V V10. They will not harm anything. I highly recommend getting a set of headers that comes with a Y-pipe like the Doug Thorley, Banks and Hedmann headers. The stock Y-pipe is junk and should be replaced.
I wouldn't run stacks. If you want stacks though make shure you size them right. Dual 2.5" stacks should be ok, but if you run pipes that are too big you will lose low end power. A single 3" exhaust with a free flowing muffler will yield the best low end power without hurting mid and top end power.
