guitar333, the switch is above the pedals on the firewall. Inorder for this switch to pop, it would take quite a large bump or a good bang when the parking brake was released. Also check under the hood on the driver's side, there should be small plastic box. It will have fuses and relays in it. Check the relay(s) that powers the fuel pump. I had a wire break off from the bottom of that relay and left me on the side of the road. I checked under the hood but didn't check carefully enough and missed it. Ended up costing WAY too much money to get fixed. Needless to say, I have never went back to that dealership again.
yhea.. under the pedals that little black box with the white buttin... if thats the inertia switch i checked that.. didnt do nothing... but as fer the relay box.. i never really inspected it that clearler.. i inspected the wires that were exposed near the connections... but ill take a closer look at that later.... that was a very helpful quote... shed a bit more light on the situation after looking at the diagrams.. ty ty...
The inertia switch on my old 87 F250 was mounted on the firewall under the dash on the the driver side of the cab. I might be wrong it's been about 6 or 7 months since I cut that truck into little pieces.
well theres a few things i am going to try once i get back out there but the more information you fellas can give me the happier i would be.. im hoping to replace all the stupid bypassed and custom wired stuff the guy put in there.. he didnt know how to fix the issue so he made it a rats nest of wired under the hood.... i hate things hotwired and jimmy rigged.... and its not that i didnt read up on these things.. im just not good with names...
Remove passenger or drivers side kick panel near the floor (it depends on the year where it is), there is a little switch with a button on top of it-it removes all power the pumps. Try seeing if it popped and push it down.
dont need to remove the panel i know the switch.. i pushed it down and it wouldnt hold.. im going to examine the switch in more detail.. im a be some pissed if thats all it was this whole time...
the inertia switch should stay down when pressed. if its not then its that switch, you could replace it or just hot wire it and save money. depends on your taste, its designed to cut the fuel pumps off in the event of a collision.
well its none of the above.. tried everything tested all the wires.. the guy who had the truck before me massacred this thing beyond repair... were taking the extreme route and transefering the other body to my frame with allt he wiring.. the thing is such a nightmare... 3 people with combined knowledge in ford trucks cant figure our what this guy did... the inertia switch was functioning properly but the power wasnt even making it to the switch.. we managed to get some fuel going but not enough to turn the engine over.... i am soo exausted.. its pretty sad when the easiest way to fix the truck is to rebuild the thing from the ground up...
